Propagation: While Ilex aquifolium may take up to two years to germinate, the process can be aided by soaking in water (cold to room temperature) for 48 hours, and changing the water every twelve hours subsequently. Stratification can take place with up to sixty days warm, followed by sixty days cold temperature. Over winter, keep potting soil in bags or outbuildings for protection from complete freezing, and in the summer keep in mid-shade in potting soil, moist.
